About half of all swamp pink populations in the world are found in New Jersey. Endangered in New Jersey, the state’s southern counties – especially Cumberland, Cape May, Ocean, Salem and Burlington – are strongholds, although swamp pinks are also found in Atlantic, and Gloucester. Michael Hogan, a naturalist and photographer who works for the South Jersey Land and Water Trust has spent his life safeguarding our state’s natural biodiversity by working with individuals, agencies and groups. By preserving our rare plants, including swamp pink habitat, we are also protecting clean water and precious habitat in South Jersey. Michael will tell us about the dangers our plants and habitat are facing and what is being done to hopefully restore them making sure future generations will be able to appreciate their unique beauty.
