SUMMARY:Tiger Beetles
DESCRIPTION:Don't miss a very special treat this April. We will meet at the
Edelman Fossil Park Auditorium to hear from one of the true experts on ti
ger beetles - one of the most charismatic and popular groups of insects wo
rldwide and a global ‘flagship’ for insect conservation. Known for usi
ng their highly developed vision and speed to hunt smaller invertebrates\,
tiger beetles occupy nearly all terrestrial ecosystems and are distribute
d across the globe. Most species were described in the 1700s and 1800s\, w
ith few species being discovered after the early 1900s. However\, in the p
ast few years there has been an uptick in new species discoveries\, with t
he advent of 'integrative taxonomy'\, using DNA and traditional informatio
n to determine species.  Dr. Duran will review the biology of tiger beetl
es and talk about the potential for even more new discoveries going forwar
d!\n\nOur program as always is free\, but to help estimate attendance we
ask you to let us know how many in your party and register in advance at
programs@gcnatureclub.org. Looking forward to seeing you at this great pr
 ogram.\nPresenter: Daniel P. Duran\, Ph.D.\, Assistant Professor &amp\; Na
 turalist\, Rowan University\nGet event updates on Meetup.com .
